3. Tim read 16 of his book.  Wanda read 3 times as many pages as Tim.  How many pages did Wanda read?

Griffins- Chapter 7 by Hope Fu

Chapter  7

“Dad? What are you talking about. I don’t have any children, you must be crazy.” Holly had thought that too, but there he was, all six feet nine inches of him. She hadn’t recognized, because he had left five-seven years ago. He shook his head and blinked as if he was confused. Holly had seen her father do that before and knew he was fooling with her. But a message that had been sent came back to her.

The message had come from Barnuis Scunderland, and it had said:

I am sorry, but Mr. Seman has gone into the world of “darkness” as some would say. He has gone quite mad. My best regards,

Soon, her father had become a long-ago memory that no one bothered to discuss. As she looked, she realized that he was different. He had a beard, and his once black and shiny hair was now whitening.

Scott was now fully awake, and he saw the portly man with Holly’s father.  Holly had told him what her father looked like, so he leapt out, and said,“Mr. Seman, what are you doing here?!”

“Seman? Boy, are you as deranged as this girl over here?  I am no father, no Seman, or any other thing you can think of!  I am the economist. Or, if you want to call me something else, Dr. Malone.”

Scott stared and murmured, “Dr. Malone, like in  The Amber Spyglass….”

\Scott interrupted, “So, you aren’t completely stupid  after all, are you.”

Holly suddenly felt a blow to her head.  She turned, lights popping in front of her eyes.

“Uh .. Scott?” While her father had given his appearance, everyone had forgotten the portly man.  He had crept behind Holly and swung. Besides his bulky figure, he was very ,very strong and Holly could feel a lump rising on the back  of her head.

Scott turned around.

“Scott!”  When Scott had turned around, the  fat man had suddenly run so fast, he was a blur. He got to Scott and took a ferocious swing.  Luckily, Scott immediately turned around, saw the man, and ducked.

“Holly, let’s get out of  here!” They ran across the room, and saw the way Mr. Seman had made his dramatic appearance- there were stairs.

“Let’s run up them and see what we find!”  They ran up and up and up. The stairs seemed to have no end. They started panting before they could even see the top. When they finally got to the top, they were completely out of breath. They looked behind and Mr. Seman’s accomplice was behind them, face beet red.

There was a door at the top. That was bad. There was no ladder where they could climb out.  “We’re going have to jump!”

     Have you ever read the book, The Iron Trial?

Well, I have. If you like magic and adventure then this is a book for you. The Iron Trial is the first book in a series, but not all the books are finished yet.

    

    The book is about a boy who ends up going to magic school because he passed a test that says if you have magic or not. He went against his father’s wishes because it was the law to go to magic school if you get. His leg has always been in a brace. When he gets there he makes two friends named Eric and Tamara. They learn magic and discover that one of them is a trader! Who is it? I guess you will have to read the book to find out.    

     

    If I rated it in stars I would probably give it a 4 if 5 is the best and 1 is the worst. My opinion on the book is that it ends in a way that makes you want to read the next book. Also, I thought it was interesting how at the end it was a very   unexpected twist of events.

My Dog Edmund

         MY DOG EDMUND!!               

 I just got a dog on  March 14, 2015.  He is a Chocolate Lab mix . He is 3 or 4 years old. My family got him off a truck. We were the 2nd to last in line. In the car he tried to climb over the seat.My mom had to move to the back seat and Edmund sat on her lap. I have walked him twice already!He has not barked yet but he is active!It is not hard to tell that he is descended from a wolf.My family is all responsible for him.He is my first dog I have had.The other pets I have had are:A cat called Chimney, 3 fish,called Freddy, Jennafish, and a current fish called Shimmer. Edmund eats dog food and likes it!  This is because he jumps on me when I’m trying to feed him. He jumps a lot! I am not sure how many are in his litter. He sleeps in his crate at night.The man we got him from (we knew this) said that Edmund had been outside in a crate at the vet’s! Edmund is lovable, mellow and playful dog and he knows it! He is (as far as I know) good with other dogs. I think Edmund likes the Golden Retriever (or Lab, I’m not sure), next door called Trinity. Edmund has gotten stronger on the leash. Edmund (even with a hurt paw) must have smelled a squirrel  and he pulled me up a snow drift! Edmund (still) has NOT BARKED YET! Dogs are good pets to have but, like all pets they need love and require work!        

FEEDING   

How I feed my dog is easy! I get a piece of food and his food (he jumps for his food) and looking at him I eat my piece of food and put down his food and say “Okay Edmund” and he eats his food. Sometimes,at night I hear him snoring in his cage(It’s loud). Awhile ago he barked when my Dad came  home. Today(4/20/15) he barked at my brother.Does he like us? I wonder if he does! A  while back,when we were walking Edmund a little dog was on the other side of the street (with his owner) and I think Edmund tried to attack it but i’m not sure why! My mom pulled Edmund away! 

Now we go up Beach Mountain Circle to walk my family’s dog. Recently when I feed Edmund(see feeding) my dad put vegetable oil in his food.  

Edo, when I was playing with him jumped on me! OW!!! HE GETS IN TROUBLE BUT HE IS ONE GOOD DOG!!!

Hedgehogs

.Hedgehogs are born without fur. When they are growing up they will grow their fur.
:When hedgehogs are first born they are about the size of a golf ball.

:They can live to about to 2 to 5 yrs.

:They have about 5000 spines,each lasts about a year then drops out and a new spine grows.

:Hedgehogs got their name from a peculiar forage- hadith.

:It is possible that hedgehogs can get wobbly head syndrome.

:They have up to 500 fleas on them and you can’t get rid of them.

Main Street Book Review

Main Street

  Main Street is by Ann M. Martin. Main Street is my favorite book series. It has so many things that could happen in real life. It is realistic fiction. The story is about two girls that lost their parents and went to live with their grandmother. The girls’ names are Flora, who is twelve, and Ruby, who is ten. Ruby wants to be an actress. Flora likes to sew and is shy but is a good friend. They mostly are nice to each other, but sometimes they fight.  

   

   There is also Nikki, who is twelve, and really shy. Another friend they have is Olivia. She likes science and is ten, but skipped a grade so is in the same grade as Nikki and Flora. The best ages to read this is ages 9-12. I thought this would be the best ages because the girls in the story are in that age range so 9-12 years old will get it more than others. I give this book a

✭✭✭✭✩ with 5 as the best and 1 as the worst.

 PANTHERS!!!By Eric Lemieux☺☻

Panthers are type of wild cats that inhabit America, Asia and Africa. They are also known as the black panther and are also called jagires.  Their scientific name is Panthera Pardus.

They can be found in rainforests, swamps, and savannas.  They are also a part of the big cat family which is native to Florida and several places around the world.

A panther looks like a leopard without spots. It has yellow eyes and dark brown fur.

Panthers are endangered animals due to loss of natural habitat and pollution.  Many people are trying to protect panthers.  

The panther is a very intelligent and agile animal. They can run up to 35 miles per hour.Their prey is deer, wild boar and raccoons. They are carnivores. Their predators are humans, lions and hyenas.

Panthers can live up to 15 years and can weigh up to 350 pounds.  

Blobfish

BLOBFISH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

BlobFish do not have any bones and when they die at the top of the surface they look like a huge blob. When people touch them they becomes all squishy. When they die they just fall down.

BlobFish have a diet and they eat sea urchins and mollusks, sea pens, and crabs. Mollusk are little water creatures that looks like snails in water. Mollusks are hard to find and usually people don’t know about them.

BlobFish do not like humans. They have a very complicated relationship and Blobfish do not like to be caught in a fish net. Blobfish are usually caught in fishnets while fishermen are trying to catch fish with the fishnet.

A Blobfish weighs about 20 pounds for an average. Blobfish are about 2.3 feet tall and that is just the average. Blobfish can grow up to be at the tallest a little bit taller than 3 feet.

Blobfish can not swim because of their lack of muscles and their muscles are too weak so they catch anything that floats to their mouth. They always have to watch out and if a predator comes they can not run away but only if the water moves them. They can only get lucky sometimes when the waves are very rough so it can move away.

The boy Blobfish puts its tail in the girl Blobfish’s mouth to ask to be its mate. People do not know how the girl Blobfish says “Yes,” or “No.” It is kind of weird to put a tail in its mouth.

There is a pack called the Sawtooth Pack were two people named Jim and Jamie Dutcher. They studied wolves for about six years in a row in a big tent that was near a pack called the Sawtooth Pack. They studied them and how they communicate. They did a lot of speeches about wolves like how they do not harm people and how they keep the food chain going.

The leader or the alpha male of the pack's name is Kamots or Freedom. He was born in June 2 and he died on June 19, 2000. He was the most confident wolf in the pack and never gave up. Whenever a member of the pack died the whole pack would be sad, especially the leader.

The alpha female name is Chemukh or Black Lassie. She was born on April 30th, and she either died and no one knows, or she is still alive. She is a dark-covered wolf all in black.

The second in command, or beta, name was Matsi, which means “Sweet and Brave.” She was born on May 23, 1992, and died on May 13, 2003. She watched after the pups and taught them how to hunt and learn the way of the pack. She helped wolves that got bullied.

One of the mid-rankings name is Motomo, or the “One Who Leads the Way.” Motomo is also the brother of Matsi and a coal-black colored wolf. He is always ready to kill. He also has yellow eyes, demands attention, and has mild manners

Another mid-ranking wolf’s name is Amani which means “speaking the truth.” She is another brother of Matsi. They say that she is gentle and wild. He likes to be a clown in the group but he has odds with his brother Motomo.

The last mid-ranking wolf’s name is Wahots which means “likes to howl.” He is the brother of Chemukh. He has a big shaped head and has almond-like eyes. They say that he was one of the most elegant and the most photogenic.

The first omega that I am going over is Wyakin which means“spirit guide.” She is the omega female. The omega is the lowest rank not counting pups. She and Chemukh are the only females in the pack. She is the sister of Chemukh. She always reveals truths about her life and teaches them special songs. She is supposed to be sweet and very playful.

The last omega and the last member of the pack not counting the pups is Lakota which means “friend.” He is lowest ranked member of the pack not counting pups. He is the brother of Kamotos. He was a omega for a very long time and he is still a omega. He is about the same size of the pack leader, Kamotos.

Spring Poem

I was lying on my deck chair on a sunny day       

The smell of sweet flowers in the air

I heard birds chirping like a song

The sun was so bright I needed sunglasses    

I felt the cool breeze brush on my face

I touched a bunny’s fur and it felt so soft

There was a beautiful butterfly on a flower

The butterfly was so many different colors     

Bees were buzzing and drinking nectar

I saw deer grazing on the green grass

There were so many animals in my yard

It was so fun I couldn’t wait to do it again

Chocolate

    Do you ever wonder how chocolate is made? Well, I have. Here are some facts about chocolate, and how it is made.

1. “Eating dark chocolate every day reduces the risk of heart disease by ⅓.”
2. Chocolate can cause headaches.
3. “White chocolate isn’t technically chocolate, as it contains no cocoa solids or cocoa liquor.”   
4. M&Ms were created in 1941 so soldiers could have chocolate without it melting.
5. The world’s largest chocolate bar weighed 5,792.50 pounds

Chocolate is made from cacao beans. Some factories have about a dozen (12) different cacao beans in each recipe. First, they roast the cacao beans in giant ovens for about 1 hour and 30 minutes. The heat actually helps it smell good!  Then, they need to take of the shells. It can take up to a week to make a single chocolate bar! The crushed shells are called nibs and crushed nibs makes a thick paste called chocolate liquor. To sweeten it add some sugar. You could eat it now, but it would not taste like chocolate. The sugar and cacao are still both grainy, so in the factory they smush it to make it smoother. Then, it is cotched or run through a machine. Then, add some more cocoa butter, but is hot, so let it cool. You can add decoration if you want, then, you finally have delicious chocolate.

Cornelius Vanderbilt

     A.K.A The Commodore

Who was he?

Cornelius Vanderbilt, a.k.a the Commodore, (born May 27,1794), was the man who had dedicated most of his life into making a transportation device, the first railroads.

How is He important?

Cornelius made a big difference to America though I will not get into all the details. After making railroads and the railroads being a success, he was rich. He realized that the other railroad companies were rising in popularity as well. He realized, no oil, no train transport. Luckily, for Vanderbilt the new oil company boss,John D. Rockefeller, was new. If he was able to trick him into giving him lots of oil for not much money, the battle of the railroads would end with him victorious. John realized that his oil was decreasing greatly from Vanderbilt and he complained to Vanderbilt. He told Vanderbilt that he would not give him oil if he didn’t stop taking so much. Vanderbilt, as the owner of most railroads, had the railroad path to a nearby city, the place where most of the oil went to. He knew that if any other train came carrying oil to the city he could stop them because it was his railroad making John mad, so Rockefeller created the first pipes to supply oil in America.

Occasional Problems

As a rich man people wanted Vanderbilt’s money, and so someone did something about it. He gave fake taxes to Vanderbilt and the money went to the schemers giving them lots of money.

Conclusion

Although Vanderbilt died,(January 4, 1877), he did a good job supplying America with what we would take for granted, such as oil pipe transport, although John D. Rockefeller invented it, he couldn’t of done it without Vanderbilt. And, if he hadn’t been alive, counterfeit money and bills might’ve still been around a little longer.
