On board the Titanic, second class was anything but second rate, for the facilities far
surpassed those of first- class facilities in most liners. At 12:25 am the wireless operator on board the 15,192-ton RMS Carpathia, the ship en route, picked up a distressed message from the Titanic and headed straight for
the Titanic’s distress call.
