How to Make an Origami Piano
By Alyssa Caneira & Amy Wei
Step 1: Fold a
square piece of paper in half vertically. Unfold. Do the same horizontally.
Step 2: Look for the crease that should be in the center of the paper.
Take the sides that are short and make those edges touch and crease.
Step 3: Put
your hand on one half of the paper. Stick one finger from the other hand into
the pocket on the side your hand isn’t on.
Step 4: Squash and crease. Repeat steps 3 &
4 on the other side.
Step 5: Pull up
center and crease.
Step 6: Fold and crease
the top of your folded-up center down a centimeter.
Step 7: Close “doors”
(sides) and crease.
Step 8: Unfold
“doors” (sides) and bring down folded center.

Interview
with the Principal
Dr.
Palmer stays as the Vinton principal because he thinks Vinton is such a good
place. Also, he has invested most of his career in the school’s success. “It’s
just really hard to do something else,” states Dr. Palmer. He spent most of his
career in the schools’ success.
One
of Dr. Palmer’s favorite things about Vinton is building the Vinton family. He
quotes, “It’s like being the mayor or the town manager of a wonderful little
village.”
In
Dr. Palmer’s free time which he has very little of, he is doing errands and
house chores. Dr. Palmer and his wife enjoy going to the beach and the theatre.
Dr.
Palmer loves helping make Vinton a great place to teach and learn.

Turtle Island Bloggers
Turtle Island Bloggers
In the afternoons on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 2:45 a group
of fourth graders and third graders meet with Mrs.Terry in the computer lab and
we pick a topic to write about.
When we’re done writing it on the computer we go to File then
we’re going to go to 2014 folder and click that. Then we go to the Terry
folder, click on it and go to EDIT.
Mrs.Terry checks it and then we put
it in DONE the folder. Then Mrs. Terry posts it on the Vinton’s Turtle Island
blog.
Your parents and friends can read what you wrote and then if
it’s very important they’ll get the message by looking at the blog. They can even make comments and so can you!
It would be cool if you went on the
blog and read what kids wrote!!!

How to Draw
Some students draw pictures
in many different ways. Like with oil pastels, crayons, markers, paintbrushes,
and sharpies many people outline their pictures and color the inside of the
picture lightly. Other people can overlap their drawings to make it look 3-D.
You can also use tissue paper, fabric, or photographs to help you make your
picture more interesting.
You should also try not to
press so hard with your pencil because if you make a mistake it is harder to
erase and it might look bad. You should also concentrate on your work and try
not to get distracted. Another tip is you should also try your best.

THE NEW
ENRICHMENT TEACHER
Today the reporters for
Turtle Island interviewed Mrs. Terry.
She enjoys being the new
enrichment teacher. “I enjoy working at
Vinton School because as the enrichment teacher I get to work with all of the grades,” quotes Mrs. Terry. Her
favorite thing about Vinton is being able to work with everyone in the
building.
Out of school Mrs. Terry is
busy with her three sons' activities. Alone she enjoys biking.

Musical Instruments for Fourth Graders
A
few weeks ago 4th graders started waking up earlier in the morning
to get on the middle school bus. Can you guess why? Well, here’s the answer…they’ve
been playing musical instruments!
Their
choices were saxophone, violin, cello, clarinet, trumpet, trombone, euphonium,
or, percussion.
Here’s
a kid who plays one, Jacob Bernstein, he plays the euphonium. He thinks it’s
pretty easy because he wakes up early anyway. He likes it because the teachers
teach at a good pace for the students and he enjoys playing the instrument. So, 3rd
graders, don’t think it’s going to be hard. Maybe you could play too!
