The Old Pond and the Fish
An old pond is still.
The water slowly ripples.

It’s a fish swimming.

Tumbling through brown branches

It Snowed

     It Snowed!!
By Kate Abbatemarco
Yesterday it snowed about three inches.” I’m so excited for more snow because it is so fun to play in,” quotes Kathryn Abbatemarco (writer of this article). I also like the snow because when I’m tired I can just fall back and land on the snow which feels like a giant pillow. Then there’s the icy snow, it hurts every time I fall on the ice and sometimes I can only lay there and wait until I regain my strength. Well, I hope you love the snow and enjoy it while it lasts because we are expecting some showers and warmer weather.

Typing Club

Typing Club
During computer the 4th graders are going on a typing site called Typing Club. To sign into Typing Club first the
4th graders sign into their Google accounts. Once they’re signed in they can easily get onto Typing Club.
Typing Club is a site that teaches the students how to type. After a lesson the computer shows your score. It shows you how many stars you earned out of 5. It shows you your accuracy and how many words you typed per minute. It also shows what you need to pass.
A cool thing about Typing Club is the scoreboard. The scoreboard shows your overall score, stars earned, and average words per minute. I’m in 1st place. If you think you’ve past every level, you’re probably wrong. There are 100 levels!
Mr.S sets a goal for number of hours on Typing Club. If the 4th graders accomplish the goal they receive a special snack from Mr. S.

Lunch Time Madness
By Claire and Alex
Usually at the 3rd and 4th grade lunch time goes pretty smooth but today on 12/4/13 there was a little craziness at lunch with Mrs. Hain’s 4th grade class… but it was only 2 kids who made the funny incident. It wasn’t that big of a deal or problem but kids thought it was really funny. So, if you want to hear about the incident then keep reading.

Ok, so here’s how it went… First, Claire did not want to get squirted with her yogurt so she turned it away from her (in the other direction) but she did not see Spencer. She opened the yogurt and it exploded right in Spencer’s face. Spencer was drinking milk at the time and he could not help but laugh so his milk went all over Claire and the bench. The worst part about it is that Spencer got barely anything on him.  The second worst thing about it was that Claire does not like milk and Spencer does not like yogurt. But, they both laughed about it! That is the good part of this horrible tragedy!

Mrs. Gilmore

                         Mrs. Gilmore
Mrs. Gilmore likes art because it’s interesting to learn about, it makes life beautiful and it’s fun to create. Mrs. Gilmore loved art since she was a little kid. She loves to teach about Pablo Picasso.  She got an award in art in 2006.
She likes to paint more than using crayons. She likes to paint pictures more than she likes to paint jewelry. Mrs. Gilmore’s favorite art project is painting flowers and still life. She has done an out of the world unusual art project. She called it Trinity.
Teaching is her favorite job that she could have. She likes doing art herself more than teaching art but she still loves to teach art. Mrs. Gilmore never wants to stop being an art teacher. Mrs. Gilmore never wants to stop being an art teacher at Annie E. Vinton Elementary School.

4th Grade Google docs.
By Claire and Alex
In the computer lab on Wednesdays and Tuesdays the 4th graders just got google docs accounts. They are now learning how to search, copy, and paste information. They each get their own e-mail and password.
Students work in teams for part of the time. For example someone types a “T” on your other teammates’ computer that “T” will show up on their computer with your color.
The person who set this all up for us is Mr. Sokoloski. We also use these accounts for our personal narratives that our teachers set up for us they can also go in our accounts and look at them. The fourth graders can also do homework or unfinished work from home.
We have a google drive and our teacher can log on our account then they can look at our work. We can add tabs at the top and go back and forth between them.  For example we go on the Vinton website and put it in a new tab then we open a new tab for research. When we are on that research website we can go back to the Vinton website by going to the top of the screen and clicking on the tab that says Vinton home page.

Maybe you will get a google docs account someday.
 Whats Happening During Recess

At recess time on Tuesdays and Thursdays there are kids who do Mileage Club. Mileage Club is where you run at least 2 laps and you have a card so that whenever you run a lap someone will help you punch a hole in your card to tell you that you have already ran that lap. If you run 10 laps, you will get a toe-token. There are 20 numbers on your card so every time you run 20 laps around the field, you will get 2 toe-tokens and a new card. When you get the new card you need to write your name and the class you are in. When it’s almost winter we stop running because it gets too cold outside to run.

Tag is also one of the things people play during recess. The people that are playing Tag be creative by splitting into groups like Boys vs. Girls. They also add more things to their game, Tag. One of the other things they add is base. Base is where you have a color or thing to touch which means you can’t be tagged when you touch it but you have to touch it for you to be on base.

There are also some sports that are played during recess like kickball and basketball. Kickball is played in the fields and basketball is played on the blacktop where the basketball hoop is.
